Akutan is a small city located on Akutan Island in the Aleutians East Borough of Alaska. It is located in the eastern Aleutian Islands, in the Bering Sea, about 600 miles southwest of Anchorage. The city is home to a population of about 500 people, and is a hub for commercial fishing. It is one of the most isolated communities in Alaska and is surrounded by stunning natural beauty. The area is known for its abundance of wildlife and its deep-sea fishing grounds, which are some of the most productive in the world. Akutan also has a unique history, as it was the site of a U.S. Naval Base during World War II.
