Axum is a city in the northern Tigray Region of Ethiopia. It is located in the Debubawi Zone of northern Ethiopia, and is one of the oldest cities in the country. It is renowned for its religious and historical sites, such as the ancient city of Yeha and the churches of St. Mary of Zion and the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. Axum is also home to the famous Axum Obelisk, a large carved stone monument that dates back to the 3rd century BC. Axum is a popular tourist destination, and its airport, Emperor Yohannes IV Airport (IATA: AXU, ICAO: HAAX), serves both domestic and international flights.
