Paro is a small city situated in the Paro Valley in western Bhutan. It is located at an elevation of 2,280 meters (7,480 ft) and is home to Paro Airport, the country’s only international airport. The city is known for its ancient monasteries and temples, as well as its traditional Bhutanese architecture. The city is a popular tourist destination and is home to numerous attractions such as the Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-like monastery, and the Paro Taktsang, a revered Buddhist temple that clings to the side of a cliff. Paro is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with traditional Bhutanese bars and restaurants offering a variety of local dishes and beverages.

Airport Directions

To get to Paro Airport (PBH) by car, you can either hire a taxi or rent a car. The cost of a taxi from the city center of Paro to the airport is around Nu. 500-1,000 (USD $7-14). Renting a car is more economical, with prices ranging from Nu. 2,500-3,500 (USD $35-49) per day. To get to Paro Airport (PBH) by bus, there are regular public buses that run from Paro city center to the airport. The fare is Nu. 40-50 (USD $0.55-0.70). To get to Paro Airport (PBH) by train, there is no direct rail connection, however you can take a train to Thimphu and then take a bus or taxi the rest of the way to the airport.
